The UK’s Chancellor had announced that UK’s roads would see driverless cars by 2021. The UK Road Minister has added that the laws must also keep up with technological innovation in order to stay at the forefront of driving technology.

The development of driverless cars means that a three year law review must be conducted to see how existing road rules would have to be adjusted to exclude the responsibility of a human at the wheel. Possible issues to be taken under consideration, would be shared criminal law responsibility between humans and computers, how road users can be protected and the role of driverless cars in public transport.

The government has dedicated 22 million pounds for the driverless cars project. The funds will be aimed at testing the vehicles in challenging and hostile environments.
