According to the Phuket Gazette, a luxury beach resort in Phuket is being investigated by police after a villa was found to have been built illegally.
The cliff-front villa is 12 meters high, double the legal limit of 6 meters, as set by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment. As a result, owners were instructed to demolish the upper half of the building.
The Thailand title deed for the property was issued in 2010, with a Sor Kor 1 document from 1954. The Department of Investigations suspects that these papers may have been issued illegally, as the Sor Kor 1 document states that the land is used for agriculture, but the structure of the land itself appears to be unsuitable for this purpose.
“It is hill and sea-side land and we found that the surface of the land is mostly stone with a shallow layer of soil which is not the location for agriculture”, Pol. Lt. Col. Prawut said. He added that the DSI would investigate the situation further.
