A story had been circulating earlier this month that the Thai government was planning to legalize the use of Marijuana for medical purposes. The story went as far as pinning the northern province of Sakhon Nakhon as the location of the farm.
Couples requiring a legal divorce expert in Thailand must meet the grounds of divorce in Thailand, having one of the spouses residing in the country.
When probed about the subject at a Cabinet meeting on Tuesday, PM Prayuth Chan-ocha said that the government had no plans on the legislation and dismissed the rumor. The story was stretched from a potential legislation that would allow the cultivation of hemp for medicinal purposes.
However, any pilot program of hemp or Marijuana may still be in the early research stages and far from legalization. The Sakhon Nakhon Governer also reported not knowing anything about plans for a possible medical Marijuana farm in the province.
When asked for comments about the false story, the National Farmers Council and Narcotics Suppression Bureau of Thailand has responded to being in favor of the legalization in response to the rumors, saying it would “help alleviate the burden” of their duties.
ThaiLawForum and Highland Network further discuss the challenges that lie ahead for the legalization of Marijuana in Thailand.
