Villagers in Krabi’s Khaokram district filed a complaint after being swindled with fake land title deeds, The Phuket Gazette reports.

Sompat Sengyon, 67, and Sumalee Saeho, 46, claim to have lost money on mortgages from around 10 title deeds, which they found to be fake after taking them to the provincial land office.

“I have lent that person 300,000 Baht. After that, the person kept quiet and never paid anything. I rechecked the title deeds again and found that they could be fake. However, it looks so real that I think they might work as a group with a land officer involved,” Sompat said.

Village Chief Sucha Wansuk says that the names of people who had died had been used on the deeds.  “One of the title deeds for 7 rai has the name of the owner as Malem Pankwan, who passed away at least 10 years ago,” he explained.
