Billionaire James Packer Resort Violates the Barbuda Land Act 2007

by admin on February 26, 2018

690px-Flag_of_Antigua_and_Barbuda.svgTwo members of the Barbuda People’s Movement filed a claim in the High Court almost two years ago, the documentation had apparently gone missing and the members now have another chance to state their case.

The members want to protest the government’s decision in 2015 to bypass the 2007 Barbuda Land Act, allowing billionaire Packer and actor Robert DeNiro to construct their $250 million resort on one of Barbuda’s islands.

The lawyer on the case arguing against the resort has said that the land belongs to the Barbuda people and therefore cannot be given away without the “consent of the people”.

A date has yet to be set for the court hearing, however, they have acknowledged that the land belongs to the members of the BPM.

Current legal issues are discussed in the Thailand Family Law Center by Thailand family lawyers.
