Uber Pays Settlement to Family of Victim Hit by their Autonomous Vehicle

440px-Uber_Self_Driving_Volvo_at_Harrison_at_4thThe victim was 49 a year old Elaine Herzberg who was struck by the Uber driverless vehicle at a crosswalk in Tempe, Arizona. The victim’s family Attorney stated that the matter was resolved as Uber had reached a settlement with the victim’s husband and daughter. However, the terms of the agreement could not be disclosed.

CCTV footage also shows the human driver behind the wheel looking down a couple of seconds before the incident, says authorities.

Herzberg’s case is still an ongoing investigation to see who was at fault. Whilst driverless cars are still in the development stages, cases such as Herzberg’s brings up the matter of liability charges when it comes to autonomous vehicles.

Uber has reportedly halted driverless car testing during the investigation.
